CRISiSLab challenge: Engaging students in hands-on scientific problem-solving

The CRISiSLab Challenge is an annual, hands-on competition for secondary students in the Wellington region, primarily targeting Years 11 and 12. Participants design, assemble, and test a water pressure sensor system to detect waves in a wave tank, presenting their findings on competition day. The challenge emphasises skills in coding, design, and visual communication, fostering teamwork and practical application of scientific principles. Organised by CRISiSLab at Massey University, Wellington, the event also aims to involve more Māori and female students in science and technology fields.
