Professor Amanda Black is a biochemist specialising in soil and water chemistry. Her research focuses on understanding plant-bacteria interactions, particularly those affecting native trees like kauri. Collaborating with rongoā experts, she has identified companion plants that may inhibit kauri dieback. Professor Black is also a member of the National Māori Biosecurity Network, advocating for hapū involvement in environmental decision-making and the integration of mātauranga Māori into scientific research.
