Expression of Interest | Year 9–10 Science Teaching Resources

The New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE) is exploring how AI, used responsibly, could help develop high-quality teaching resources to support kaiako as they prepare for the new Year 9 and 10 science curriculum. This is part of our commitment to supporting kaiako with trustworthy, equitable resources that make a meaningful difference to teaching and learning for all ākonga.

We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals, teams or organisations interested in developing high-quality teaching and learning resources to support the implementation of the new Year 9–10 Science curriculum in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We recognise that curriculum change brings both opportunities and challenges for kaiako. Our priority is to provide practical, adaptable and classroom-ready resources that reduce teacher workload and strengthen science teaching and learning.

Central to this work is a commitment to ethical AI use, respect for mātauranga Māori and tikanga, and culturally responsive learning. We also value meaningful, sustainable relationships with local iwi and hapū that do not place unnecessary demands on communities.

Expression of interest overview:

We welcome innovative approaches that offer genuine value to science teachers and learners across Aotearoa and are particularly interested in proposals that demonstrate:

  • Strong alignment with the new Science curriculum.
  • Practical, adaptable unit plans and teaching resources.
  • Scientific accuracy and sound pedagogical approaches.
  • Meaningful and appropriate integration of mātauranga Māori, tikanga and culturally responsive practice.
  • Consideration of diverse learners and classroom contexts.
  • Cost-effective and sustainable resource development, including the responsible use of AI where appropriate.

Expressions of interest should include a brief outline of the proposed approach, anticipated deliverables, indicative development timeline, relevant experience and an estimated budget.

Resources will be hosted through NZASE, with intellectual property and usage rights agreed as part of the commissioning process.

Closing date: By close of business on Friday, 30 October 2026

Our commitment is to support kaiako with trustworthy, equitable resources that make a meaningful difference to teaching and learning for all ākonga.
