This article explores how Wellington East Girls’ College is integrating Mātauranga Pūtaiao—Māori knowledge of the natural world—into their science curriculum. Led by Assistant HoD Kath Haines, the initiative involves teaching one unit per year that incorporates Māori and Pasifika perspectives, such as pūrākau, waiata, and traditional navigation. The approach aims to provide a more inclusive and culturally responsive science education, with positive feedback from students and plans to expand the programme further.
